Aircraft movements increased by 9.4% whilst cargo recorded a 6.4% increase compared to the same month last year. Passenger traffic for the year to date (YTD) shows an increase of 8.2%, with 3,793,693 passengers handled through the airport during this period.

GACA is also in the process of establishing a new holding company to manage its 27 airports, initially to be government owned, with the possibility of being privatised sometime between 2012 and 2015. According to GACA President, Abdullah Rehaimi, “we’re very behind in the development of our airports, but we’re now transforming them into economic zones.”
